Abstract :
This paper tries to characterize avalanche photodiodes (APD) in time and frequency domain and to analyze its influences on optical receivers. For this reason a circuit model of PIN-avalanche photodiodes based on carrier rate equations and a 2.5 Gb/s CMOS optical front-end is designed to contemplate the mutual effects of photodetector characteristics and receiver performances.
