Abstract :
The versatile features of the hybrid mode scanning antenna to meet the stringent low-level surveillance requirements in the tactical environment are presented. The advantage of this antenna implemented in search radar over traditional antennas is that the antenna has a narrow pencil beam which allows placing the antenna beam very close to the ground for detection of a low-altitude penetrator. Then, with wide angle beam steering coverage, the antenna can lay its beams at various heights just above the local crest to catch the pop-up target. Finally, an electronic azimuth back-scan function provided by the antenna permits target detection and verification on the same antenna scan.<>
