Abstract :
The authors present a comparison of radiation characteristics between the infinite arrays of dipoles printed on protruding dielectric substrates with finite-height metallic walls inserted parallel to the H-plane of the array. These metallic walls modify the E-plane coupling between the elements and, as a result, the surface wave previously identified by J.-P. Bayard et al. (see International Conference on Antennas and Propagation ICAP 91, York, UK, p.636-9, 1991) cannot propagate. The present work seeks to study these effects, as well as the effects of the metallic walls on the feed radiation. First, the authors outline the method of analysis; then numerical results are presented for arrays of dipoles with and without feedlines, and with varying dielectric substrate parameters.<>
