Abstract :
Upgrading the AFRTS network using compressed digital video via Scientific-Atlanta´s PowerVu MPEG-2/DVB equipment demonstrates how COTS enabled the expansion of service to include multiple video channels, CD-quality audio channels, and high-speed data channels within AFRTS´ existing worldwide satellite network. Applications include in-region injection of additional video, audio, and data service. AFRTS also implemented commercial conditional access and successfully mastered the implications of using digital video compression
