Abstract
This paper describes a forward error control scheme designed for use with BADD (Battlefield Awareness and Data Dissemination) and GBS (Global Broadcast Service). The error events encountered will consist primarily of dropped data packets resulting in erased data rather than errors. The scheme is designed to recover large amounts of lost data (of the order of several megabytes) using low coding overhead (of the order of 10%) and is thus applicable for large messages only. The scheme is designed for implementation at the application level, so the minimisation of the computational complexity is the primary design constraint. The scheme is based on multidimensional Reed-Solomon product codes and uses a sub-optimal but computationally feasible decoding procedure
