Abstract :
Some surface mountable antennas, which can be mounted directly on a circuit board in a chassis and have unidirectional radiation patterns, have been developed for cellular handsets. Those surface mountable antennas can reduce the packaging cost by using surface-mount-technology. Furthermore, the unidirectional radiation characteristics of those antennas reduce the radiation toward the human head. A novel surface mountable dielectric chip antenna is proposed, and its experimental and computational characteristics are shown. In order to investigate the electromagnetic properties of the antenna, the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method was employed.
