Abstract :
The rapid increase on the demand for mobile telephony has led the operating companies to use cell splitting in order to increase capacity. This tends to reduce the cells sizes to what is called picocells, which suits office and factory environments. Eventually the next generation of mobile systems, PCS, will be introduced, helping to cope with the high demand. Although the frequency of the PCS system will be around 1800 MHz, the aim of this work is to verify how a 900 MHz signal behaves inside a building with corridors and rooms receiving a signal internally and externally. The attenuation due to obstructing material is determined. In the next set of experiments the 1800 MHz frequency will be used
