Abstract
This paper present the development of one prototype of a new insulator of 15 kV class for electrical distribution systems, made from polymers obtain from the oil of Mamona trees. Presented too is the evaluation of electrical performance in a high voltage laboratory, under different electrical tests used for 15 kV class insulators. The results are compared with the results of traditional porcelain 15 kV class insulators, showing a good performance for alternating and impulsive voltages. The mechanical evaluation shows that the new insulator presents advantages when compared with porcelain insulators, mainly a light weight and better vandal resistance
