  • Abstract
An efficient UWB monocycle pulse transmission scheme is presented in this paper. By integrating RF switches at particular positions on a resonant antenna such as a patch antenna, the modulating signal can turn on and off the antenna´s radiation by open- or short-circuiting the radiation slots directly, resulting in the transmission of short pulses with high instantaneous radiated power. An in-house FDTD code that can incorporate time-varying lumped circuit elements into the simulations is applied to validate the pulse transmission performance of the proposed scheme through a full-wave simulation. Both the radiation gain and radiation efficiency of the scheme are discussed based on FDTD simulations and the equivalent circuit model
