Abstract
In this paper, a new cascade form adaptive IIR bandpass filter is proposed for detecting a single sinusoid corrupted by Gaussian noise. Compared with a single stage second-order adaptive filter, the proposed multi-stage adaptive filter can detect a sinusoid with higher noise suppression, but no additional computation is needed in adaptive processing. Computer simulation shows that the difference between output error variances of single stage and multistage filters increases with SNR, and the optimum number of stages is four
