Abstract :
In the framework of the European Telecommunication Satellite Programme, Alenia Spazio is presently responsible for two studies involving the development of two telecommunication satellites: the Data Relay Satellite (DRS) and the Advanced and Technology Mission Satellite (Artemis). Both systems need a fixed Ka-band reconfigurable antenna for the feeder-link to/from a set of earth stations in Western Europe. The authors describe the electrical design and performance of both Ka-band antennas based on a shaped reflector and two feeds. Only one feed is active at a time, switched-on in orbit according to the location of the satellite. Some computed antenna radiation patterns for the two designs are shown.<>
