Abstract :
A wavelet analysis of backscattering data is presented. In contrast to the RWFT (running window Fourier transform), the wavelet transform technique has a multiresolution property through the use of multiscale windows. Therefore, multiscale events in the frequency data can be more effectively resolved in the time-frequency plane by the wavelet transform. Results for an open-ended waveguide cavity and a dispersive plasma cylinder are presented. From the two examples considered, it is observed that the wavelet transform provides good resolution in simultaneously identifying the scattering centers and resolving the resonant phenomena of the target, while adequately describing the dispersive scattering mechanisms in the intermediate region.<>
