  • Abstract
It is noted that, as communication data rates expand, adaptive interference cancellation designs in addition to spread spectrum modulation and passive sidelobe control will be required to achieve the goals of electronic survivability for future satellite communication systems. Adaptive processing technology will increase the development requirements for these future uplink antenna systems. The additional development requirements for these adaptive subsystems are reviewed. This development includes the antenna hardware, the RF electronics associated with the these systems up to the point where interference is subtracted from desired signals, the selection of an adaptive algorithm for controlling the adaptive circuitry that is sufficiently robust to meet a variety of interference strategies, and the testing of these systems, including required new instrumentation techniques.<>
