Abstract :
The authors consider pulsed radiation from a horizontal electric current element inside a grounded dielectric layer to the free space outside the layer. The well-known formal solutions generated by plane wave spectral decomposition lead to a generic spectral integral formulation whose reduction by various analytic exact and asymptotic alternatives has been investigated. It is found that these alternatives do not apply equally to the TE (transverse electric) and TM (transverse magnetic) problems (defined with respect to the z-coordinate perpendicular to the layer), owing to complications introduced by the existence of a Brewster angle of perfect transmission for TM. The TM problem is treated here. Repeated reference is made to the companion paper for the TE case (see ibid. p.666-9, 1992).<>
