Abstract :
The traditional L-system is a parallel string-rewriting system in which the production of branch structure is different from the growth of stems while developing the morphology of plants. The grammar system about structure of plants is generated by an iterative procedure, and eventually is visualized by using Turtle interpretation to simulate a virtual plant. The method is lack of intuitive biological meaning in simulating the dynamic process of plant growth. A generalized L-system method is proposed in this paper. In this method, substructure is the unit of growth with physiological age and chronological age, and the dynamic growth is manifested by the hidden Markov procedure, and then the developed plants have the stochastic quality in accordance with botanical principles. Finally, a given instance shows the proposed method is quick and effective in modeling plants.
