Abstract :
A low cost solution for connecting several computerized systems in a noisy industrial environment is described. Two intelligent communication hardware boards have been designed based on VME and PC/AT buses thus permitting embedded systems to be connected to PCs. The communication is based on HDLC protocol for point-to-point and multidrop topologies. The software provides extensive error checking features and also accumulates relevant statistics on frame traffic etc. The modules have been used in several industrial systems with excellent results
