Abstract
Three types of spiral antennas constructed from a triplate transmission line are investigated for use as an array antenna element. The radiation characteristics were measured over a frequency band of 11.5 GHz to 12.2 GHz. Based on the investigation, an array antenna consisting of four spiral antennas was fabricated. The array shows a gain of 13.7 dB with a radiation efficiency of 73%. The bandwidth for a 3-dB axial ratio criterion is 2.6%, over which the return loss is observed to be less than -14 dB.<>
