Abstract
Summary form only given. The acoustic scattering of the MPS (modified power spectrum) pulse from hard spheres was investigated. The authors synthesized the effect of launching and approximation to the MPS pulse from a finite array of transducers by superimposing the results obtained from a single transducer when it transmits an appropriate signal from a particular location. In this way they synthesized the array launching of a number of different MPS pulses, and measured the backscattered signal from steel spheres of various sizes. They showed how the backscattered data may be used to describe the characteristics of the scatterer. They also indicated how the backscattered data from two spheres may be used to determine the separation of the scatterers.<>
