Abstract :
In a vehicle license plate identification system, plate region detection is the key step before the final recognition. A new method based on color feature and mathematical morphology, which can be used to locate the text area of a vehicle plate in a complicated background, is proposed in the paper. The core technology is in confirming the function of color features to locate the plate region. The results of experiments showed that the method given has the merit of higher accuracy, faster rate, and more extensive scope.
