Abstract
In order to decrease the overall wavelength number required in a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) network, new heuristic algorithms for wavelength assignment are proposed in this paper. We also define a new parameter called one-wavelength-decrease cost, which may be used to evaluate the efficiency of these algorithms. Comparative simulation studies have been carried out to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
