Abstract
This paper describes the development of a design method for designing CSCW systems. It is based on experience gained in the design of large CSCW systems characterized by a top level predefined process predefined but where the activities in each step of this process are carried out in a non predefined manner. The design method provides a systematic way of dealing with the large volumes of detail found in such systems and reducing these detailed requirements into a working system. The method begins with techniques used in soft systems methodologies and then uses structured design rationale, supported by tools, to select commercial services. The paper describes the application of the method in business network formation
