  • Abstract
In this paper, we present various considerations and solutions for the smooth migration of 2G to 3G networks. The paper first describes the critical considerations for 2G to 3G transition and then illustrates the major migration paths based on the existing 1G/2G technology. Each migration path is analyzed; various network elements that are required for each migration path identified, and the key considerations associated with the choice of the hardware or software modules needed for upgrading the network are described.
