Abstract :
In this paper, we present a design of PRMCS (Pharos remote monitoring and control system), and study the communication protocols based on WSN (wireless sensor network) for PRMCS. The PRMCS is the integrated pharos system, consisting of RTU (remote terminal unit), control center, and sensors. Two communication patterns based on WSN are used in PRMCS, one is used on the control center, the other on RTU and sensor. We use the GPRS (general packet radio service) which has short message of GSM (global system for mobile communication) to build the communication between RTU and the control center. The communication between RTU and sensor is built with both integrated and wireless way using IEEE 802.14.5 and IEEE 802.11b. Taking the reliability of data collection and communication, power consumption and the cost of system maintenance into account, we have optimized the communication protocols. Analysis of system running data show that PRMCS system based on WSN has better stability and robust and less communication time than traditional PRMCS system.
