Abstract
In this paper, the problem of optimal cost location area planning with an approach useful to cellular network planners is done. The methodology adopted is quite simple and relies on certain assumptions like the random walk model of mobility pattern, mobile terminals, and considering inter LA handoff to be a fair estimate of location update/registration cost. The basic scheme for LA planning with formulation of a problem for 100 cells, solution methodology invoked, simulation results and discussion on its implications, are the bases of this paper. The proposal is fully compatible with existing cellular structures and requires minimal computational power.
