Abstract :
The main aim of this study was to investigate the current status of e-learning policy and key initiatives of e-learning implementation program in Malaysian public universities (MPU). The methodology used was the generic qualitative research approach where interviews of respondents from 12 MPU and analysis of relevant key documents were used for gathering the necessary data. The findings revealed that there was no single document that could be referred as the national policy for e-learning in MPU, and there were only three universities that have already a formal and well documented e-learning policy. Those policies apparently lack of many important components as recommended in the literature. At the end of this paper, some important measures were outlined and suggested to improve the e-learning implementation programme in MPU.
