Abstract :
IS planning continues to be one of the more challenging areas in IS management. In a business environment characterized by quickly developing technologies and intensifying competition more creativity is required in all phases of the IS planning process. We review and comment on models of IS planning and examine the potential for applying activity theory in IS planning breaking the perspective of IS planning evolution into three distinct time periods. A discussion is then offered that relates creativity principles to each of the temporal eras we identify in the evolution of IS planning
