Abstract :
In order to realize the IMT-2000 system, each functional entity in the IMT-2000 functional model should be mapped into a physical entity. We consider that an IMT-2000 network consists of a radio access system, ATM backbone, and an information handling system. We first discuss physical mapping scenarios for call and radio resource related functional entities. Then we present several possible mapping scenarios for the access network based on the IMT-2000 functional model and discuss the relative merits and disadvantages of all cases. The choice among these scenarios depends on a full consideration of various factors. After we select the most practical and feasible one, we present an IMT-2000 access network architecture restructured using the RACP (radio access control plane) and CCP (core control plane) concepts which conform to the basic IMT-2000 system model addressed by the ITU-R. Based on the architecture we propose, we believe that the IMT-2000 system can be realized with such advantages as cost savings, easy network maintenance and operations, and network evolution with the facility
