Abstract :
The current study represents a research initiative undertaken collaboratively by the researchers with the Minority Shareholders Watchdog Group (MSWG). In promoting self-governance, the study developed a self-regulating corporate governance tool that public listed companies could use to monitor and assess their on corporate governance reporting and practices. The tool was developed based on the prescribed “basic principles” and “global best practices” of the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance. Known as the Corporate Governance ScreenCard or in short CG Screencard, the usage of the tool was tested on one hundred public listed companies that the MSWG has some investment interest in. As it is handy and simple to use, the CG Screencard is useful for Chief Executive Officers, Chief Operating Officers and members of the Board of Directors to monitor their companies´ corporate governance conformance.
