Abstract :
Screening out an effective, safe and environmental anesthetic on fish was the intention of this study. At the temperature of 15~25°C, the anesthesia time, the recovery time, the bounce time and the number of gills movements were studied at different concentrations of eugenol (FA-100) on carassius auratus. The results showed that, the anesthesia time shortened with the concentration increasing from 60~480 mg·L-1, while the recovery time and bounce time got raised, but the number of the gills movement were decreased (P<;0.05). The recovery rate was 100%, and the survival rate was 100% after 7 days when the concentration was from 60~480 mg·L-1, however, the recovery rate was 60% after 7 days when the concentration was 960 mg·L-1. The results indicated that eugenol had an effective anesthetic effect on carassius auratus, and the safest concentration was 60~480 mg·L-1. It can be concluded that FA-100 was an appropriate aquatic anesthetic.
