Abstract :
The University of California, Merced (UC Merced) opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California system. UC Merced will offer a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs and is expected to grow to a 25,000-student enrollment at full build-out by approximately 2030. UC Merced is building a solar energy research program under the direction of Dean Jeff Wright and Professor Roland Winston. The solar energy research program will be complemented by a global energy curriculum. The curriculum will strive to integrate graduate-level education on energy issues, environmental science and policy, natural resources economics, and non-proliferation and international security studies into the world´s first truly international university curriculum on global energy issues. The curriculum will allow students to gain top notch education provided by leading universities in various continents of the world, both in industrialized and developing countries.
