Abstract :
Dynamic modulus of Elasticity (MOE) is one of the widely used characteristic for the evaluation of wood strength. MOE of five selected tropical species, which are Acacia mangium (AC), Lithocarous sp. (LS), Cotylelobium melanoxylon (CM), Paraserianthes falcataria (PF) and Elmerrillia mollis (EM) are studied by using the free-free flexural vibration method, which is one of the NDT. Decreasing or increasing of MOE indicated the NDT is possible to be used to detect the deterioration of wood caused by natural surroundings. The result shows that the NDT is successfully to be used to trace the changes of MOE. The relationship between MOE with temperature, rainfall and humidity are studied and MOE was found not significant correlated with the temperature, humidity and rainfall.
