Abstract
This paper discussed case study research carried out to investigate what are the statistical methods used by selected local industries. The study was initiated with the purpose to identify gaps between formal statistics tertiary learning with workplace needs. Surveys were carried out in selected manufacturings, productions and services industries in several states in Malaysia to observe statistical applications used. Different levels of statistical procedures can be observed at each respective businesses and industries. Industry requirements for statistical practices also varies according to type of firms and businesses carried out. Although more could be done to improve learning we conclude that our formal tertiary curriculum content sufficiently addressed the statistical methods required by these industries. In addition undergraduate´s employability could be further enhanced by addressing their intellectual characteristics which include problem solving and communication skills in teaching and learning processes.
