Abstract :
The two configurations of transverse flux linear motors with rectangular teeth and magnetic shield are introduced. The one-dimensional analysis model of transverse flux linear motors is shown. The thrust force is calculated by magnetic co-energy. The thrust force density (N/m2) for the two configurations of transverse flux linear motors is calculated by a 2-dimensional finite element method (FEM). Finally, the authors compared the calculated thrust force of the two configurations of transverse flux linear motors with measured data. The calculated performance of the transverse linear motor with magnetic shield revealed a great potential of system improvements by increasing the thrust force of the motor
