  • Abstract
The requirement for small satellites has been on a rise ever since 1957. The clients are spread far and wide on the globe. They have diversified requirements for payloads and are also limited by budgets for these satellites. These aspects tremendously increase pressure on design and development teams from translating abstract specifications to detailed designs to meet customer requirements. Ongoing advancements in technologies of various fields add to options for clients in terms of performance. But complexity of design creates constraints for designers. This research is focused on developing joint collaboration models between clients and designers to achieve the desired customer´s specifications and overcome design limitations. A client requirements model (CRM) and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and OEM client collaboration model (OCCM) have also been proposed for the benefit of prospective clients and OEMs. The possibility of outsourcing design and development to clients has also been investigated based on the review of various such programs.
