Abstract :
Another main application of inverter systems in the industry is as AC power supplies, which include UPS systems and power conditioners for alternate/renewable sources of energy. The rapid development in information related industries and the inclination towards alternate/renewable sources of energy as future energy supply by power utilities have made an impact on the AC power supplies design which is towards higher power ratings and efficiency. Incorporation of a modular structured multilevel inverter (MSMI) with a digital signal processor (DSP) based on online optimal PWM switching strategies as part of its control scheme are proposed for high voltage applications. This is to ensure fixed voltage with minimum specified total harmonic distortion (THD) at a fixed frequency is maintained on the MSMI output regardless of the loading conditions. This paper focuses on the development of this control scheme, which is supported by some results based on simulation and experimental work
