Abstract :
This paper deals with the skew effects on starting characteristics of a line-start permanent-magnet motor (LSPM). Considering structural constraints of a rotor of an LSPM, we propose a stator-skewed core. With variation of the skew angle of stator core, the back EMF and the start-up characteristics are analyzed, and the optimal angle to maximize the start-up performance is searched. For analysis considering the 3D-effects of skewed structure, we apply the 2D FEM with multi-slice combination technique. The optimal skewed model and a non-skewed model are fabricated, tested and validated experimentally.
