  • Abstract
The requirements for a proper inspection and testing program during the design, procurement, and installation phases of projects is discussed. Appropriate tests are described, examples of criteria for acceptance are given, and the benefits of this program are shown. First the author deals with the factory inspection and witness tests that should be performed on electrical equipment, and then he discusses field testing and checkout of equipment. Discovering any equipment defects at the earliest stage can improve project schedule performance markedly, and proper timing of onsite testing can ensure contractor performance, as well as to detect damage or errors in installation
