  • Abstract
J.C. Bamford is Britain´s largest privately owned manufacturer and exporter of earth moving and materials handling machinery. Introduced in 1992, DFMA(R) (design for manufacture and assembly) has proved its capability several times for JCB. Having been implemented throughout several of the group´s divisions and used on such familiar products as the `Backhoe Loader´ and, more recently, `Loadall´ machines. In this paper, the authors discuss the history of DFMA(R) in brief, and aim to focus on the introduction, adoption and achievements of the world´s leading DFMA(R) technology at Britain´s favourite firm. A review of case examples from a variety of other industries, including Aerospace, Automotive, Defence, Telecoms and Medical, will further demonstrate the breadth and value of applying DFMA(R)
