Abstract :
Microprocessor-based implementations of protection, instrumentation, and control systems, which offer many user benefits individually, are discussed. The authors focus on those synergistic benefits made available when these functions are effectively integrated through data communications. Various ways in which industrial power users may benefit through reduced energy costs, more efficient utilization of power distribution equipment, and improved power system reliability are explored
