Abstract :
The paper presents part of the work that has been undertaken by the University of Padova (Italy) in the frame of a two-year European CRAFT project in collaboration with the University of Paderborn (Germany) and some European Companies. The subject of the paper is a software tool for the selection and the commissioning of speed and position controllers for a two-mass system with mechanical imperfections such as friction and backlash. As it is thought to be as easy-to-use for the industry commissioning personnel, it provides hints for the selection of the most suitable control algorithm among a broad choice of built-in solutions, also performing an initial self-tuning of the related parameters. The commissioning is based on a mathematical model of the system, whose identification is an integral part of the CRAFT project, and that was one of the tasks developed by the University of Paderborn. This paper highlights the features of the selection and commissioning tool, that also makes use of fuzzy-logic based artificial experience algorithms for the performance evaluation
