Abstract
This paper deals with the comparative analysis of rating of shunt APF for an UPQC, applied to protect a critical load from power quality problems. Two different control techniques are employed to control the series and shunt APF of UPQC. The performance comparison is made between a fixed hysteresis band control applied to both APFs and a mixed mode control, where shunt APF by hysteresis and series APF by SPWM. No transformations are used, making the computation easier and simpler. Extensive simulations are carried out in PSCAD/EMTDC and the simulation results show improved performance and reduced shunt APF rating in mixed mode of control.
