Abstract
This paper reports development of a novel high thrust linear machine with spiral structure. This motor consists of a mover and stator with spirally-shaped iron cores. The mover moves spirally in the stator and the linear motion is extracted to drive the load. In this paper, a basic model and thrust/torque equations are provided based on permeance analysis, and experimental results of a prototype are presented. From the analysis, thrust of the designed spiral motor of 43 [kg] weight is expected to achieve 3000 [N], which is higher than the conventional linear motor´s thrust.
