Abstract :
This paper reviews the needs of the broadcaster using the historical development of the BBC broadcast infrastructure to formulate requirements. Then it explores the current issues facing the programme making infrastructure and finally, speculates on the role that managed high speed digital network services such as ATM could have in providing solutions
