Abstract :
This paper presents a highly linear active mixer for UMTS applications. Three source-degenerated differential pairs are used in transconductance stage to reduce the second and third-order distortion components. Analysis of the proposed transconductance is presented to examine the effectiveness of the new technique. Simulations in a 0.18 um CMOS technology demonstrate that IIP3 and IIP2 of the proposed mixer have 6 dB and 16 dB improvements, respectively, compared with the conventional Gilbert-type mixer with the same power consumption. The mixer has a gain of 6 dB and drawing 4 mA from 1.8 V supply voltage.
