Abstract :
Most of the sinter produced now as blast furnace burden material is the self-fluxing sinter that has limestone fines to be added as flux. Reports concerning the effect of limestone fine added to the raw sinter mix in terms of mineralogical microstructure are available but this effect has been clarified little from the standpoint of reaction kinetics. Much work has been reported on the important effect of particle size distribution in the coke breeze used as a heat source for sintering on the sinterability of iron ore. This phenomenon has not been extensively studied nor fully known quantitatively hitherto. In the conventional theoretical analysis, the coke combustion reactions have been taken into account so far but the decomposition reactions of limestone and also the permeability of the raw material bed have not been considered
