Abstract :
This article presents a comparative study of the closed loop performances that can be achieved by the PI tuning methods reported in the literature for integrating plus time delay process models. Guidelines are provided to help the user for selecting the tuning strategy for servo and regulatory applications, respectively. The performance measures used for comparison are the integral of squared error in the controlled variable and the total variation of the manipulated variable. The maximum sensitivity is used to estimate the robustness of the control system.
