Abstract :
This paper presents a computationally efficient improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm for solving Optimal Power Flow (OPF) for security enhancement. This algorithm is based on the combined application of Fuzzy Logic strategy incorporated in PSO algorithm hence named as Fuzzified PSO (FPSO). The power system security enhancement deals with the task of taking remedial measures against overloads in the system due to the occurrence of contingencies. The line overloads can be removed by means of generation rescheduling and by adjustment of phase shifting transformers. The proposed method calculates the optimal values of generator active-power output, location and the angle of phase shifting transformer for line load alleviation. Simulation results on IEEE 30-bus is presented. The analysis reveals that the proposed algorithm is quite simple, efficient and suitable for real time applications.
