Abstract :
The enzyme cellulase from Aspergillus nidulans SU04 was applied for the bio-finishing of jute fibers in this study. This cellulase of higher activity (60.54 U/ml) was employed to improve the smooth ness, brightness and whiteness of the jute fibres. The results of the scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis after the treatment favored the achievement of maximum surface finishing at a jute fiber concentration of 16% (w/v) at 45° C and pH5.0 using cellulase (60.54 U/ml) at 17th h of the treatment. A probable mechanism of enzymatic finishing of jute fibres is also represented.
