Abstract
This paper describes an approach for automated parameter derivation of models for synchronous generators, their excitation system and the turbine-governor. The methodology is based on performing and collecting data from a series of staged tests (mainly off-line). This data is then used in an automated routine to fit parameters to selected standard model structures. The results of this work have provided some quite significant insight into the process, strengths and weaknesses of field testing and generator model validation.
