Abstract :
The call establishment process in ATM networks can constitute a source of overload in the switches of the network. This paper uses analytic modeling and simulation to investigate the resulting overload. Our results indicate that as the rate of call establishment requests increases, bottlenecks of call establishment requests being processed at input and intermediate nodes in the system build up selectively, leading to congestion and “hot-spots” in certain parts of a large ATM network
